How To Create (and sell) Your Own Custom GPT in 5 Minutes

Listen up. I’m going to tell you about something cool we did that really boosted sales for one of our products, just using a simple AI bot built right inside ChatGPT. No fancy software needed, no complicated setups, just this AI helper doing the heavy lifting for folks.

Here’s how we did it, and how you can use the same idea to potentially sell more, make customers happier, and drive up those profits.

Who’s Talking Here?#

Hey, I’m Brian Moran. I started Sam Cart. It’s a big e-commerce platform, doing $300 million, and it helps out some really well-known brands and online personalities. Basically, I spend my days seeing what actually works for selling stuff and growing businesses. Trust me, I’ve seen a ton of data on what’s effective.

So, I want to share something that’s crushing it for us right now, and also for lots of the thousands of online sellers using Sam Cart. It’s all about building your own AI bot to give your customers way more value without needing expensive tech or tools.

The Problem We Solved with Typeset#

See, we have this other tool we brought into the Sam Cart family called Typeset. It’s a neat AI design engine that helps you quickly create good-looking things like:

  • Ebooks
  • Lead magnets
  • Video slides
  • Ads
  • Social posts

The thing was, a bunch of people would sign up for Typeset but then get stuck. Why? Because they didn’t have the actual content ready to design yet.

The Simple Bot Solution and What Happened#

So, I thought, why not build a simple AI bot? This bot literally helps people create that content, step by step. That way, all they have to do is take the content the bot helps them make, paste it into Typeset, and boom – it’s designed!

My main goal was simple: just get the people who signed up for Typeset to actually stick around and use the tool.

But what happened next totally surprised me.

  • Way more people started signing up than before.
  • They were staying around longer.
  • They were using Typeset more.

Giving away this little AI bot for free to anyone who signed up almost tripled the profit from this whole setup.

How We Built This Bot (The Steps)#

Here’s the breakdown of how we built it in a few easy steps:

  1. Start in ChatGPT:

    • Go inside ChatGPT.
    • Click the “Explore GPTs” button.
    • Then, click the “Create” button.
  2. Name Your Bot & Give Instructions:

    • Give your bot a name.
    • Put in all your instructions, prompts, and any documents you want it to use.
    • Example for a social media content bot: I gave it:
      • My framework for picking great topics.
      • Examples of past posts that worked well.
      • Specific instructions on how long the posts should be.
      • Guidelines for creating good images.
      • Any other info that would help it make great content.
  3. Make it Ask Questions First (Context is Key):

    • You’ll notice at first, the bot’s answers aren’t great or perfect. ChatGPT usually needs some context to give you anything useful.
    • To fix this, I told the bot not to give me anything back until I answered specific questions, no matter what I asked it.
    • For the social media bot, these critical questions were:
      • Who is your target customer?
      • What kind of content do they like?
    • Knowing these things is essential before creating social media content, so I made sure this custom bot always gets this info first.
  4. Test and Refine:

    • Once I thought the bot was ready, I spent about 15 or 20 minutes just trying it out myself.
    • Sometimes the responses weren’t formatted right, or I’d see it making the same mistake repeatedly.
    • When that happened, I’d just go back into the instructions and tweak them until the bot worked perfectly every single time.

Sharing Your Bot (Getting it to Customers)#

Once the bot is ready to go, it’s simple:

  • Click the share button.
  • Select the option that says “Anyone with this link can access it.”
  • Copy that link.
  • Make sure your customers get it.

How we deliver this one is through the customer welcome email everyone gets right after they sign up. We just give them the link so they can use the bot whenever they need it.

If you sell courses, another option is to put this link right inside your members area. That way, only your paying customers can get to it.

The Magic Step: Showing it Off on Your Landing Page#

This is where a lot of the magic happens. Now that we have this custom bot to give away free when people sign up, we make sure everyone knows about it.

  • We added a simple section to our landing page specifically highlighting the bot.
  • We included a quick image to represent the bot.
  • We used ChatGPT itself to write a summary explaining what the bot does and why someone would want it.
  • We added a couple of bullet points. These points explain what the bot does, but more importantly, they focus on the benefit people will actually get by using it.

Adding just this little section to our landing page increased the conversion rate of that page by over 30%.

When you combine that increase with the fact that now twice as many people see value in Typeset (because this bot solves their biggest initial problem), our sales have jumped up by two and a half times (2.5x).

Who This Works For#

If you’re a:

  • Course creator
  • Coach
  • Digital product seller

…this is really a no-brainer strategy.

If you sell software, our story proves it can definitely work for you too.

And even if you’re not selling anything yet, you could easily build one of these bots for yourself and start making money just by selling access to it.

Selling Your Bot with Sam Cart (An Option)#

Within minutes, you could use Sam Cart to quickly build a nice landing page specifically for your bot. You could start taking orders right there with our easy embedded checkout form.

Sam Cart could then automatically send an email to each customer with the link to your new bot. Doing it this way means you don’t have to give ChatGPT a cut of your earnings, like you might if you sold it through their platform.

Wrapping It Up#

If you want your customers to be more successful (which also helps with them sticking around longer, getting good testimonials, and spreading the word), you should definitely start playing around with these custom GPTs. They don’t cost anything to build, they’re fast to test, and man, they are incredibly effective.

If you’re curious to see more of how I’m using AI or what other moves we’re making behind the scenes to try and turn Sam Cart into a billion-dollar software company, you should join my newsletter. There’s usually a link right below the video. We send out an email every Monday and Thursday sharing the strategies we’re using to boost sales. Plus, we share what’s working across the whole e-commerce world, using the data we see daily.
